Call for 2019 Conference Co-Chair

DEC is looking for a Co-Chair for the 2019 conference. Join current chair, Jenna Weglarz-Ward, and the DEC Executive Office, alongside many dedicated volunteers, in designing DEC’s most exciting annual event. The DEC Annual Conference brings together families, students, professionals, higher education faculty, researchers, and others to celebrate the field of early childhood special education.

With approximately 1200 participants attending hundreds of sessions, the excitement at the conference is contagious! Participants enjoy the gift of dedicated time to inspire one another as well as learn from one another, as we collectively push ever forward to support quality services and ultimately positive outcomes for young children with disabilities and their families.

Each year, a conference chair and co-chair work with the Executive Office to develop a meaningful experience that encourages reflection on relevant topics and continues to transform practice.

Duties include

• Developing the conference theme

• Identifying and selecting keynote presentations

• Developing call for conference proposals

• Selecting conference reviewers and strand chairs

• Reviewing conference proposals

• Selecting and scheduling conference sessions

• Participating in regular conference meetings

• Writing program welcome for the conference program

• Presenting welcome and closing at the conference

• Communicating and collaborating with the Executive Office, conference chairs, strand chairs, and conference committee

Time Commitment Required

• 5 hours per month—hours vary throughout the year with more hours required December-April

• This is a 2-year commitment including 1 year as co-chair for the 2019 conference in Dallas, Texas and 1 year as chair for the 2020 conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota

• Co-Chair and Chair must attend the full conference

The co-chair will receive complimentary conference registration and travel support.

Eligibility

Must be a DEC member in good standing and have experience attending the DEC Annual Conference.
