What is the Subdivision Support Committee (SSC)?

The SSC provides support and guidance to subdivision enabling subdivisions to reflect and share the vision, mission, and guiding principles of DEC with their members and beyond. Subdivisions are a vital part of DEC that help with recruiting and maintaining active membership within states and throughout the world. Members of the SSC are ambassadors that support subdivisions through:

  • providing guidance to subdivision leaders,

  • encouraging growth of membership and leaders within subdivisions,

  • developing innovative approaches to expand subdivisions including, but not limited to: student groups, international subdivisions, military families and practitioners,

  • promoting policy and advocacy opportunities in support of children with disabilities and their families at the local, state, and national levels,

  • facilitating conversations among subdivisions, the DEC Executive Board and Office, and CEC,

  • drafting and disseminating subdivision annual report and action plan templates, and

  • analyzing subdivision annual reports, action plans and communicating with subdivisions to determine strengths and needs of subdivisions.

Among other support activities, the SSC provides DEC subdivision leaders with resources and information on growth and functioning aligned with DEC’s mission, ends policies, and other guiding principles. This committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Executive Board and the Executive Office.
