Keeping the CEC Necrology Current - Honoring the Lives of Council for Exceptional Children and Division for Early Childhood Members Who Have Passed Away

The CEC Necrology Registry honors the lives and professional contributions of CEC members who have passed away. It preserves their legacy, recognizes their service to the Council and the field of special education, and ensures they remain a valued part of CEC’s history.

For many years, CEC maintained an annual necrology recognizing members who had passed away during the previous year. Although this practice ended in 2020, the Division of Leaders and Legacy (DLL) worked with the CEC Board of Directors to reinstate and institutionalize the Necrology Registry as an ongoing record of remembrance.

Through the work of the Legacy Proclamation and Necrology Committer, listings of members who passed away during 2021–2025 have been compiled and are posted below on the Membership page of the CEC website.

To help keep this important record current, please notify CEC of members or former members who have passed away since January 2026. Send the following information to service@exceptionalchildren.org:

  • Member’s name

  • Date of passing

  • Unit and/or Division affiliation(s), if known

  • A current mailing address for the family and the name of a family member or loved one, if available, so CEC may send a condolence card when notification is received in a timely manner.

Your assistance helps ensure that the service and contributions of our colleagues are remembered and preserved as part of CEC’s enduring legacy.
