DEC is committed to 1) Competent Professionals and Families; 2) Informed Professionals and Families; 3) Connections Among Professionals and Families; 4) Informed Policy Makers.

A critical component to achievement of these ends is support for future leaders in early intervention and early childhood special education. DECIDE is DEC's consortium for higher education faculty, researchers, policymakers, and early childhood special education advocates and current doctoral students with the mission of enhancing the quality of doctoral education for DEC’s future leaders through the use of innovative approaches to learning.DECIDE seeks to provide doctoral students with support and mentorship while offering participating leaders in the field an opportunity to collaborate with future leaders, thereby creating a meaningful community of practice.

DEC is currently recruiting a co-chair for DECIDE.

DECIDE is a volunteer body officially recognized by the DEC Executive Office with its own leadership positions, including the Chair and Co-Chair. The Co-Chair serves in this role for one year and then takes over the Chair position for the following year. The Chair and Co-Chair collectively support networking between faculty and doctoral students and support for doctoral students and doctoral faculty by collectively leading DECIDE monthly meetings and guiding projects such as quarterly webinars, faculty-doctoral students mentoring programs, and doctoral-level summer courses. The Co-Chair must be a DEC member in good standing. They are a volunteer and not considered a member of the DEC Executive Board.
