Vocabulary knowledge is an essential component of both reading success and school achievement. Preschool children who fall behind in acquiring critical early literacy skills, such as vocabulary, are at an increased risk for later reading difficulties. Therefore, it is important that preschool teachers are implementing evidence-based strategies specifically targeting vocabulary development.
The objectives for this webinar are to provide participants with: (a) a short overview of the importance of vocabulary development for later reading success, with an emphasis on verb vocabulary, (b) information on specific strategies for teaching vocabulary, and (c) knowledge on how teachers can utilize technology (i.e., iPad applications) to deliver vocabulary instruction to preschool children.
