Revision of the DEC Position Statement: The Role of Special Instruction in Early Intervention

Call for Development Team Members

Overview

DEC is inviting applications for members who are interested in serving on a writing development team to revise and update the position statement, The Role of Special Instruction in Early Intervention (2014). This team will review the current position statement and strengthen its connection to the DEC Recommended Practices, the priority issues agenda, personnel standards, and other position statements. Members will also contribute valuable perspectives on what is important to address related to the current implementation of special instruction, personnel preparation and qualifications for professionals providing this unique service, and how special instructors engage families and other team members throughout the early intervention process.

Members representative of the diversity of DEC’s membership, including race, ethnicity, religion, gender, national origin, age, and disability, are encouraged to apply. Further, we seek applicants who represent all member categories (e.g., practitioners, families, higher education faculty) with varied experiences from a variety of organizations (e.g., B-3 agencies, public and private schools, universities).

Commitment

Participating on this development team will require a 1-year commitment and attendance at monthly web-based meetings (60-90 minutes). Members will also complete work between meetings, including reviewing articles and resources, reviewing and editing drafts of the statement, etc. The total anticipated commitment for participating as a team member is 2-3 hours per month.

Application

Please complete the application survey here by Wednesday, March 24th, 2023 to express your interest in serving on this team. Team members will be notified by April 30, 2023.

Active membership in DEC is required.
