DEC and CEC are preparing to review the Initial Early Interventionist/Early Childhood Special Educator Professional Preparation Standards (EI/ECSE Standards) for birth through 8 years. Would you like to be a part of this process?
If so, DEC and CEC are currently seeking volunteers to serve on the EI/ECSE Standards Revision Workgroup. This group will be charged with reviewing and recommending revisions to the EI/ECSE Standards and preparing additional resources and guidance for the field required for approval by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The workgroup will work in concert with CEC's K-12 Standards Revision Workgroup and the CEC Professional Standards and Practices Committee to ensure that the revised EI/ECSE Standards align with the mission of the organization and with best practices in the field of special education.
The workgroup will require a substantial commitment of time over the next two years. It is expected that there will be approximately two virtual meetings monthly beginning the end of February 2026 through early 2027. Significant writing assignments will need to be completed between meetings. Members will have input into scheduling the meetings and are expected to attend all meetings. The first meeting will take place the week of February 23rd, 2026.
If you are interested in being considered for the workgroup, please complete the online application no later than Wednesday, January 14th, 2026. Notification of acceptance for membership will be sent via email the week of February 16th, 2026. Applicants must be CEC and DEC members.
Please contact Vicki Stayton, DEC Consultant (vicki@dec-sped.org) or Peggy Kemp, DEC Executive Director (peggy@dec-sped.org) with any questions.
