Call for DEC Inclusion, Equity & Social Justice Committee Members

The DEC Inclusion, Equity, & Social Justice Committee is recruiting up to 5 members.

What is the DEC Inclusion, Equity & Social Justice Development Committee?

The DEC Inclusion, Equity & Social Justice Development Committee is still in progress. It is estimated that the DEC Inclusion, Equity, & Social Justice Development Committee will be in place by June 30, 2019. The Committee’s responsibility is to provide overall guidance and support to DEC as an organization. This support will include information on evidence-based practices, individual support, and organization of activities across DEC Committees and activities horizontally and diagonally.

Example activities to expect from the Inclusion, Equity & Social Justice Development:

  • Creates professional development opportunities/products leaders, members, and the field.One example is a webinar series on implicit and explicit bias.

  • Develops guidance for DEC on Inclusion, Equity, and Social Justice, including position statements, white papers, etc.

  • Serves as coach to DEC leaders individually and as a group

  • Organizes and facilitates meetings/professional development for DEC members including Committees in partnership with Executive Office

  • Determines, along with other committee members, initiatives and programs that the Committee will coordinate at the national DEC Conference

Inclusion, Equity & Social Justice Committee Composition

The DEC Inclusion, Equity & Social Justice Committee consists of individuals who assume committee roles. The Inclusion, Equity & Social Justice membership is made up of DEC members in good standing who apply to serve. Members volunteer their time and are not considered members of the DEC Executive Board.

Member Qualifications and Expectations

  • Must be a DEC member in good standing

  • Have significant interest in topics of inclusion, equity, and social justice

  • Willing to serve a two to three-year term with possible reappointment

  • Attend and contribute to project work and team conference calls

  • Make the necessary time commitment (approximately 8-10 hours per month)

DEC Committees

The DEC Inclusion, Equity & Social Justice Committee functions as a necessary and significant arm of the DEC Executive Office. DEC’s Committees are officially recognized bodies of DEC members that are supported by the DEC Executive Office and are liaised by members of the DEC Executive Board. DEC Committees embrace and support the division’s formal positions and proactively participate in developing, maintaining, and evolving strategies and initiatives crucial and central to supporting DEC’s mission and ends policies.
