Two New Senate Bills Would Provide Emergency Funds to IDEA

Join DEC in thanking the Senators involved!

Thank you!

The Division for Early Childhood (DEC) expresses gratitude and appreciation to:

  • U.S. Senator Patty Murray (WA) and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (NY) for introducing the Coronavirus Child Care and Education Relief Act (CCCERA); and

  • Senators Maggie Hassan (NH), Chris Murphy (CT), and Chris Van Hollen (MD) who introduced the Supporting Children with Disabilities During COVID–19 Act.

Both bills would provide one-time emergency COVID-19 pandemic funding to support Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) programs, including Part C and Preschool 619.

DEC thanks all the DEC members who have been working with DEC and our partners to be sure Part C and Preschool 619 were included in COVID-19 bills. Both bills would include extra funds for Part B state grants, $500 million for Part C and $400 million for Preschool 619. The Hassan, Murphy and Van Hollen bill also includes additional funds for Part D of IDEA. DEC strongly supports the inclusion of additional funds for Part D. NEXT STEPS: NOW DEC Needs Your Help to Get all these IDEA emergency funds included in a final Senate COVID-19 bill!

Please Join us NOW and go to the CEC Legislative Action Center to send a letter to your Congressional delegation. CEC reports that over 5,000 grassroots advocates such as yourself wrote to Congress to request emergency IDEA funding, and your message was heard! That is the power of advocacy. As the Senate begins to put pen to paper on a possible next COVID-19 package, now is the time to amplify the message that emergency funding for IDEA is needed. Please go to CEC’s Legislative Action Center to take action today!

Senators Maggie Hassan (NH), Chris Murphy (CT), and Chris Van Hollen (MD) introduced the Supporting Children with Disabilities during COVID-19 Act.

Thank you for all you do!
