Call for Input: Project ENGAGE Research Study

Dear DEC Member,

Input is needed from all members of the DEC community to help refine and validate a new technology-based observation system called ENGAGE. The Project ENGAGE research team at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, with funding from the Institute for Education Sciences (Award #R324A170032), is developing ENGAGE to simultaneously measure child engagement and adult interaction practices known to promote engagement. ENGAGE is being designed;

  • for use with a variety of children within a variety of preschool classrooms,

  • to provide a data-based “temperature check” of the classroom, and

  • to help teachers, coaches, administrators, and researchers use data to support classroom instructional teams.

We are asking you to complete an online questionnaire that should take 15 - 20 minutes. For this questionnaire, you will be asked to read about some of the things that we are trying to observe with ENGAGE. For some items, you might be asked to tell us what things go together. In other items, you might be asked to watch a brief video and answer a question about what you saw on the video.

Though we don’t think you’ll experience any benefit now by participating in this survey, we do hope that what we are learning and creating will be helpful in the future. Your participation is entirely voluntary. Your decision not to participate will in no way impact your relationship with members of the research team or the University of Minnesota.

If you choose to complete the survey, you will have the opportunity to enter a drawing to receive one of 20, $25 Amazon gift cards.

When you are ready to participate in the survey, please click here to visit the ENGAGE Validation Questionnaire.

Any questions at all, please feel free to reach out to Dr. LeAnne Johnson at leannej@umn.edu, or our Project Coordinator, Andrea Ford, at bohxx001@umn.edu.

Thank you for your willingness to share your time and expertise!

Dr. LeAnne Johnson, Dr. Joseph Rios, and the rest of the Project ENGAGE Team
