Call for DEC Subdivision Support Committee Members

The DEC Subdivision Support Committee (SSC) is recruiting up to 5 members.

Subdivision Support Committee Purpose

DEC’s Subdivision Support Committee provides support and technical assistance to state subdivisions ensuring that subdivisions are a vital part of DEC. This includes recruitment and development of new subdivisions as well as structure for subdivision development through:

  • providing guidance to subdivision leaders,

  • drafting and disseminating subdivision annual report and action plan templates, and

  • analyzing subdivision annual reports, action plans and communicating with subdivisions to determine strengths and needs of subdivisions.

Among other support activities, the SSC provides DEC subdivision leaders with resources and information on growth and functioning aligned with DEC’s mission and ends policies.

Subdivision Support Committee Composition

The DEC SSC structure consists of strands to address the functions of the committee. The committee seeks committee members to lead efforts for (1) recruiting new subdivisions, (2) researching the possibility and supporting growth of student chapters within active subdivisions, (3) collaborating across committees for the support of subdivisions, and (4) managing the community of practice for the subdivision leaders. The SSC membership is made up of DEC members in good standing who have been in subdivision leadership for a minimum of 2 years who apply to serve. SSC members volunteer their time and are not considered members of the DEC Executive Board.

Subdivision Support Committee Member Qualifications and Expectations

  • Must be a DEC member in good standing

  • Must have been in state subdivision leadership for a minimum of 2 years

  • Be willing to serve a two-year term with possible reappointment

  • Be able to respond to queries promptly and provide input to the functions of the committee as well as state subdivision needs

  • Attend and contribute to monthly committee conference calls as well as the bi-monthly subdivision leaders conferences calls/meetings

  • Make the necessary time commitment (approximately 6 hours per month spent with activities such as planning and conducting subdivision meetings as well as individual technical assistance to subdivisions)

DEC Committees

The DEC SSC functions as a necessary and significant arm of the DEC Executive Office. DEC’s Committees are officially recognized bodies of DEC members that are supported by the DEC Executive Office and are liaised by members of the DEC Executive Board. DEC Committees embrace and support the division’s formal positions and proactively participate in developing, maintaining, and evolving strategies and initiatives crucial and central to supporting DEC’s mission and ends policies.
