Action Needed Today: Request for Comments on Department of Education Delay in Implementing Dispropor

ACTION NEEDED TODAY

Comments are due today, May 14, 2018 by 11:59 PM.

DEC strongly opposes the delay proposed by the Department of Education for implementing the significant disproportionality regulations by two years, from July 1, 2018, to July 1, 2020. DEC also opposes the proposed delay in the date children ages 3 through 5 must be included in the analysis of significant disproportionality, from July 1, 2020, to July 1, 2022.

DEC strongly opposes the proposed delay of the implementation dates for the IDEA’s disproportionality regulations. Existing disproportionality is a critical issue that needs to be remedied to ensure equity in the opportunities for all children to benefit from a high quality educational experience.

DEC’s comments are included here for your review. Please feel free to use these comments when developing your own. Please make your own comments by 11:59 pm tonight, May 14th on Regulations.gov by going to the following link:

DEC supports the current regulations published on December 19, 2016 and their implementation timelines.
