Child Care for Working Families Act – A new bill introduced September 14, 2017

Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and Representative Bobby Scott (D-VA) introduced their child care legislation “Child Care for Working Families Act” on Thursday September 14, 2017. DEC has endorsed this bill and now your Members of Congress need to hear from you! Click here for more information and tips on what you can do to take action!

As DEC members, we know:

  • many infants, toddlers, and young children with disabilities that we serve are in child care settings and deserve high quality inclusive care,

  • families deserve access to affordable, high-quality child care so that parents can work and give children a good start to succeed in school and in life,

  • child care workers deserve increased compensation and workforce training so they may provide high-quality care for the children we serve and make a living wage to provide for their own families, and

  • many children, including children with disabilities, would benefit from full-day, full-year Head Start programs.

For these reasons, among others, it is important for DEC members to support this bill so that low- and middle-income families who need the most support have access to affordable, high quality child care. Additionally, this bill includes increased funding for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to build more inclusive, high quality child care programs for infants, toddlers, and children with disabilities.
