Call for Input: DEC Position Statement on Personnel Standards in Early Childhood Special Education

We need your input!

DEC, with participation from NAEYC, has revised its position statement on Personnel Standards for Early Education and Early Intervention. The purpose of the revised position statement is to provide guidance to universities/colleges, professional development providers, and state certification licensing offices on the preparation of educators who work with children with disabilities birth through 8 years old and their families. The position statement includes specific recommendations for the content and structure of programs and certification/licensing based on “what should be” and not necessarily on “what currently is”. The content of the position statement is consistent with (while not duplicating) other DEC position statements.

Please click on the following links to download the draft and the feedback survey. The survey is organized by 9 major sections of the draft position statement with both closed and open-ended questions.

We are accepting community feedback about the position statement until June 30, 2017. Please feel free to share this survey with others who may be interested or have expertise in personnel preparation.

On behalf of the development team, we thank you in advance for your input. All input will be reviewed and considered in developing the final draft of the position statement. We look forward to unveiling the final position statement at the 2017 DEC Conference in Portland, Oregon!
