The DEC Recommended Practices Evidence Syntheses

Purpose of the Recommended Practice (RPs) Evidence Syntheses

The overarching purpose of the RP Evidence Syntheses is to gather and analyze existing research covering each of the eight RP topics – Assessment, Environment, Family, Instruction, Interaction, Leadership, Teaming and Collaboration, and Transition. Utilizing a universal framework and templates allows authors to format the research for all eight RP topics within a systematic structure that is used for each of the synthesis. Thus, allowing the reader to easily follow, consume, and apply the syntheses information. Additional information about the RP procedural guidelines and protocols can be accessed below.

Purpose of the DEC Recommended Practice Evidence Syntheses Guidelines Parts I and II:

The purpose of Part I is to:

  • Present the framework that underlies the conduct of evidence syntheses for the DEC RPs.

  • Describe and differentiate different types of empirical research designs that can be used in evidence syntheses for the DEC RPs.

  • Describe and differentiate different types of evidence syntheses.

  • Detail the procedures that should be used when conducting an evidence synthesis of a DEC RPs.

The purpose of Part II is to outline:

  • The products developed from the standardized templates discussed in Part I, including a structured abstract, plain language summary, evidence tables, PRISMA flow diagram, and references.

  • The process for submitting the evidence synthesis for review to the Evidence Synthesis Group.

  • The steps of the review process.
