Call for Manuscripts: DEC Recommended Practices Monograph Series No. 5 - Interactions: Responsive In

The Division for Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional Children (DEC) will publish its fifth monograph in the DEC Recommended Practices Monograph Series in 2019. The topic of this monograph is interaction practices. Interpersonal interactions with sensitive, responsive interaction partners have been linked to virtually every area of learning and development in young children.

For this monograph, we are interested in manuscripts that highlight innovative, evidence-based approaches to implementing the DEC Recommended Practices focused on interaction. Those implementing the intervention practices can be family members, caregivers, personnel, or other children who support the learning and development of young children from birth to 5-years-of-age who have or who are at risk for developmental disabilities or delays. Consistent with the DEC Recommended Practices focused on interaction, manuscripts that illustrate the use of intentional, systematic interaction intervention strategies and practices for assessment, intervention, and evaluation of interaction intervention are particularly encouraged. For further information about the types of manuscripts sought for the monograph, the 5 interaction practices and examples for each practice can be downloaded here.

We are especially interested in manuscripts that illustrate (1) innovative use of the DEC interaction practices by family members, other caregivers, and personnel from multiple disciplines; (2) use of responsive interaction intervention to achieve development and learning across multiple areas of development and learning (e.g., language, emotional, social, cognitive, problem-solving) in children with different disabilities or risk conditions; (3) use of responsive interaction intervention practices to achieve responsive interactions in children's interaction partners, based on adult learning principles; (4) approaches to assessment to support identification of interaction goals and natural environments for responsive interaction intervention, and (5) approaches to preparing personnel to use responsive interaction and responsive interaction intervention. We are also interested in manuscripts that describe challenges and solutions in assessment, intervention, and evaluation in responsive interaction intervention and in those that will promote discourse around approaches to responsive interaction intervention in different cultural contexts.

Manuscripts should be well-grounded in research and written for practitioners. Authors can use case examples or vignettes to illustrate how the interaction practices that are the focus of the manuscript are implemented in inclusive or natural environments and across children's multiple interaction partners. One or more interaction practices should be clearly targeted and woven into the manuscript.

To ensure representation of a range of the DEC Recommended Practices on interaction and its application in multiple contexts, final selection of manuscripts will be determined, in part, by the practice(s) addressed in each manuscript.

The manuscript submission deadline is December 10, 2017. Recommended manuscript length is 10-15 double-spaced pages, including references. Manuscripts should be formatted using the 6th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (http://www.apastyle.org/manual/). Manuscripts should be submitted to:
