Presidential Primaries

As you know, the presidential election process is in full swing with multiple primaries scheduled for the coming months. DEC encourages all members to vote in the primaries, when applicable, and the general election. To assist you, DEC has compiled the following resources:

Children's Action Network

Become a part of DEC's Children's Action Network. The Children Action Network (CAN) effects governmental changes at the local, state, provincial, and federal levels. CAN is a communication network that is comprised of individuals in each DEC Subdivision who develops and maintains a system for communicating and sharing information with DEC members in their respective states and provinces. Contact your DEC Subdivision to find out the contact name for the CAN Coordinator in your state or province.

If you would like to receive CAN Messages by e-mail and you are a Division for Early Childhood member, please send e-mail to dlarocco@hartford.edu. In the body of the text, type "subscribe CAN Alert". You will receive a text version of each CAN Alert.

As a division of the Council for Exceptional Children, DEC is pleased to be able to connect you to resources developed by the Public Policy Unit of CEC.

  • Read the latest CEC Public Policy/Legislative Update to find out what's really happening in Washington DC and how it can affect young children with disabilities and their families.
  • CEC's Public Policy Unit has put together a variety of Public Policy Resources to give you the background information on current legislation, including IDEA and No Child Left Behind. , for you to download at your leisure.
