Our mission

The Division for Early Childhood (DEC) promotes policies and advances evidence-based practices that support families and enhance the optimal development of young children (0-8) who have or are at risk for developmental delays and disabilities. DEC is an international membership organization for those who work with or on behalf of young children (0-8) with disabilities and other special needs and their families.

The DEC Leadership SIG is open to any DEC member who shares an interest in leadership as a concept or a practice and wants to affiliate with others to develop leadership capacity in themselves and in the field of early childhood special education. Members come together in several ways, including face-to-face meetings at the DEC Conference and through digital means to build and manage the knowledge they need.

Dear Colleague:

You are invited to attend the third annual National Leadership in Early Childhood Special Education Summit meeting on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from 8:30 am – 11:30 am at the DEC 31st International Conference on Young Children with Special Needs and their Families in Atlanta, GA. We look forward to briefly reviewing our activities and progress since the 2014 summit. We will discuss next steps and create individual action plans to maintain focus on leadership in early intervention and early childhood special education in order to build and sustain leadership capital.

As we work to build leadership capital in our field, please share this invitation with other leaders and aspiring leaders who you believe can effectively contribute to our goals and activities. Please keep in mind that our meeting room has space for 25 participants, so please register early.
